There are some basics that are so often ignored. The one I am going to talk about is so key and so often NOT used that just by starting to use this simple piece of equipment your production value will look 1000% better. By the title I’m sure you’ve guessed it, a tripod. Bloggers need a tripod for video to make them look professional, please their audience and focus on other things.
Handheld is for amateurs
A steady shot is not only pleasing to the eye, it also shows that you care for your audience. By taking a minute to set up a tripod or mount of some kind it shows a little more fore thought and planning into your video. A steady shot is also a lot easier to frame your shot in a pleasing manner.
This isn’t the Blair Witch Project
Once of the biggest critiques of the Blair Witch Project was that the handheld style of shooting made audiences nauseated. This observation doesn’t end with movies – it pretty much applies to all film/ video. Hand held is never perfectly steady and can result is making your audience ill – which is not a good way to try and retain/ build and audience.
It makes it easier to film everything yourself
Trying to film yourself while holding the camera leads to a bumpy ride for the audience and an amateurish look. It also makes it really hard for you to keep the framing nice, check the lighting and mind the sound. Eliminating one thing to worry about makes filming go a lot smoother.
Bloggers need a tripod for video production simple as that. I have some great mounts and other ideas for you. Check out this video here.
